September 2, 2010, Chester, PA. The Macedonia Church today announced a three day Music Festival to target Youth and to bring an end to the gun violence in Chester. The Chester Youth Gospel Music Explosion Weekend will be held on Friday September 10 through Sunday September 12, 2010 on the grounds of the Macedonia Church located at 1917 W. 6th Street, Chester, PA next to the Commodore Barry Bridge. The events will kick off on Friday September 10, 2010 at 7:00 pm with an open rap (talk) session with Minister Laurent Grosvenor and Gospel Rapper Azim Smith; and will end on Sunday at 7:00 pm after a performance by Gospel Recording Artist JJ Hairston of Youthful Praise. The weekend will be highlighted by an outdoor stage with live performances on Sunday from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Other community partners include the Chester Police Department, UPS, and the Chester Youth Coalition.
The Sunday highlights will feature free refreshments, kids activities, information booths, and free back-to-school supplies for over 200+ students. The weekend will also feature music by Shiloh Baptist Youth, True Worship, ChoZen, Macedonia Youth, JAD’L, PRAZE, Quest and many others. There will also be a clothing sale by Kelly’s Kloset to highlight the needs of breast cancer survivors. According to Macedonia Pastor George E. Jackson, “We are opening our doors to Chester’s youth to begin to address some of the needs in the community.”
